    Historical and cultural commentary

These beads and the bracelet were in use: they were worn by a representative of the indigenous population of the Solomon Islands, who took them off for 10$, graciously responding to a request from a Russian tourist to sell them to him. These beads retain a persistent scent of the body of the local resident, whose skin was traditionally rubbed with aromatic oils extracted from plants.
